Home visit: take the comfort of indoors outside
This summer, use textiles to make your outside space (garden, terrace or balcony) feel as comfortable and inviting as your indoor space…
Create an outdoor living room Garden furniture, like the L-shaped wooden bench in Anna’s courtyard, can feel less inviting when left bare. To soften, start by adding seat pads. You can pick them up in a variety of sizes to match what you have – chairs or benches – and they’re easy to re-cover with new fabric for a quick style update. Add layers of cushions, and instead of having untreated decking underfoot, put down a rug for true comfort. These cozy additions are worth the effort, and if the weather changes, easy to bring back inside. And the garden fence? Decorate it as you would a wall in your home. Anna used hooks to hang a simple plate display on her fence.
Take life outside Anna has a view of her back garden through windows in the kitchen area of her home, and as it gets warmer, finds herself drawn outside to relax and be creative. Macramé is her passion – a large project will usually involve using the loom in her workspace, but small pieces can be weaved outside.
