Accomplishment of ΙΚΕΑ flood assistance program for Thessaly
IKEA, a Fourlis Group company, is proud to announce that the home and professional equipment offer program aimed at households affected by the dramatic impacts of storm “Daniel” in Thessaly has been crowned with success. More specifically, IKEA has funded 1 million euros in total for products and discounts.
From the very first moment, IKEA has supported people in need by offering mattresses and textiles for the residents of the areas of Karditsa, Farsala, and Trikala. Moreover, in cooperation with InterIKEA, it has fully equipped more than 160 totally destroyed households of Vlochos village located at the Municipality of Palamas, all while standing by the side of locals and businesses through a discount plan in order to immediately repair the damages and get back to normal life as soon as possible.
IKEA embraces society at all times by implementing programs and actions designed to support vulnerable social groups, protect and restore the environment. It participates in the national effort to achieve net-zero emissions, enhance the circular economy, reproduce natural resources, protect the ecosystem and biodiversity, while inspirating and supporting a better everyday life for everyone – at home, at the neighbourhood, on our planet.
In this framework, IKEA has always remained close to people affected by natural disasters through the provision of products and discounts. It was there for the survivors of the Mati wildfire (2018). It supported those impacted by the “Ianos” medicane in Thessaly (2020) as well as the cities of Elassona and Tyrnavos that were hit by an earthquake. IKEA also supported society during the 2021 wildfires and offered €100,000 to a special account entitled “State Aid Account”.
At the same time, thanks to the Greek Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage, it is committed to support the restoration of natural ecosystems in the affected areas and has provided financial aid to the volunteer firefighters of the island of Evia for the purchase of equipment.
Finally, IKEA has supported the WWF Greece program to help face the consequences of Evia wildfires and along with WWF it has assisted the ANIMA non-profit association active in rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals in Evia and other regions.
At IKEA, creating a better everyday life for the many people is our vision.
