"JANINGE started out as a challenge – to create a chair that could handle the everyday wear and tear of a restaurant, yet be well-designed enough to take home. We needed to design for strength, durability and stability, as well as high quality and comfort. Thanks to close cooperation and team spirit, we managed to solve the equation of combining design, function and quality in the same chair – and at a low price."

If you want a pleasant dining area but have limited space, a good tip is to choose chairs and a table in bar height. They take less room and can also serve as a workspace. Choose betweens several different heights, styles and materials.

Choose the right height of your bar stool so that it is comfy to sit on, offers plenty of leg room and is proportionate with the rest of your space. Kitchen counters and counter-height tables typically range from 87-91 cm from the floor. To find the perfect stool for your counter, look for a seat height of 60-66 cm. Tabletops or counters that measure between 101-106 cm from the floor, are typically classified as "bar height”, and require a seat height of 72-76 centimetres.

Whether you prefer to eat your meatballs at home or in one of our IKEA restaurants, our JANINGE chair is designed to sit just right. We gave the JANINGE design team the challenge to create a chair that works as well at home as in restaurants – meeting the high standards of certification for public use and giving you good value for money. To achieve this, the design team needed to do things differently and break the traditional mould, so to speak.
