What's so Swedish about meatballs?
Meatballs are tasty, round, cute and a bit funny, and they can be varied in countless ways. Especially when eaten with mashed potatoes, cream sauce and lingonberry jam – the sweet-sour and salty flavour combo that makes them truly Swedish. These convenient, affordable crowd-pleasers were first mentioned in print in Sweden in Kajsa Warg’s (one of the best-known cooks in Swedish history) cookbook from 1754, and have slowly but steadily become part of both everyday meals and special occasion menus. Tuesday, August 23rd is national Meatball Day in Sweden.
